What is the Building Safety and Fire Compliance Framework?
Fire Safety is a key concern to the NHS for obvious reasons such as patient and building safety. Each year every NHS trust will publish a fire safety policy backed by a fire safety audit and assessment. According to NHS bosses, this is to “ensure, as far as possible, that outbreaks of fire do not occur. If an outbreak cannot be prevented it must be rapidly detected, effectively contained and quickly extinguished without risk to staff, clients or visitors.”
Evaluations thus far demonstrate that every £1 invested in the Fire Management Service results in a minimum saving of £2.52 in healthcare expenditure.
Buildings in the 1950s/1960s widely used asbestos as an insulator. This caused the subsequent lung disease, Asbestosis. Safe building management and specifically, asbestos management is a key requirement to deliver the operating framework.
Through this agreement, suppliers can establish the management and (re)inspection of buildings, services or assets known or suspected of containing asbestos material to ensure staff, patients and visitors are not placed at risk.
